Why convert JPG to PNG?

PNG uses lossless compression, so you can edit and save it again and again without losing more detail. That makes it a good format for images you will edit, add text to or use in designs.

Converting does not bring back detail that JPG compression already removed, and the PNG file is usually larger. If you only want to share a photo, keep the JPG.

Does PNG make the background transparent?

No. PNG supports transparency, but a converted photo stays fully opaque. To make a background transparent you need an image editor.

Questions and answers

Is this JPG to PNG converter free?
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and converts one image at a time.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The conversion happens in your browser on your own device. Your image is never sent to a server.
Why is the PNG bigger than the JPG?
PNG is lossless, so it stores more data than JPG for the same photo. That is normal.

Not on this page. Formatly on iPhone converts dozens of images in one go.
